From brief to installation

A complete workshop approach.

We interpret proportions, pressure, seams and material behaviour without losing the original intent. Development, production and testing take place in the Paris workshop. Packing and installation support are defined for each project.

JC Keller works with creative agencies, artists, scenographers and brands to develop custom inflatable objects and structures. A sketch, physical product, drawing or 3D file can start the conversation. The workshop assesses how proportions, seams and inflation will translate the idea into a manufactured form.

From creative brief to workshop tests

The development starts with the object and its intended use. Dimensions, membrane, pattern making and assembly are considered together. The need for a model or prototype depends on the shape and technical questions. Fabrication and testing follow the agreed design.

Planning an international production

Share the destination, venue access, project dates and installation responsibilities early. Packing, transport and on-site support are defined in the proposal for the project. One-off artworks, branded props and repeat installations each need a different brief.

Forms made to order

Tubes, columns, blocks and cubes, display plinths and pedestals, rings, floors and scenic panels can be developed to your dimensions. These are made-to-order forms, with construction and installation assessed for the intended use. A decorative block and an occupied space require different engineering.

Retail and visual merchandising

For Stanley at La Samaritaine, the workshop fabricated white inflatable elements integrated into display bases. Product dimensions, supports, sightlines and handling determine how a custom plinth fits into a retail installation.

Stage, sets and brand activations

Custom props, scenic floors and panels serve stage productions, advertising, film and events. Dior Versailles demonstrates an inflatable scenic floor; Renault’s Geneva stand uses inflatable cladding, while the L’Oréal installation at Molitor brings coloured rings into an event setting.

A brief the workshop can build from

Include the intended use, dimensions, quantity, dates, destination, indoor or outdoor setting, branding or printing and installation requirements. Add drawings, reference images and available 3D files. We can then assess materials, pattern making, assembly, testing and the production schedule.

Volumes for exhibition settings

Ventilated half-bubble forms were fabricated to decorate the aisles of the Salon de l’Agriculture. These made-to-order decorative volumes illustrate how the workshop develops forms for an exhibition setting.

Materials and surface treatments

Clear, coloured, light-diffusing or glossy PVC, TPU and technical fabrics offer different visual and construction possibilities. Printing, paint, applied graphics and projection are considered with the membrane and shape. The chosen reference and finishing method must suit the project.

Sealed inflatables: captive air

A sealed or airtight inflatable is inflated through a valve, which is then closed. It does not use a permanent air supply during normal operation, but pressure and condition still need monitoring. Seams, valves, handling and repair access are part of its design.

Continuous-air inflatables

A blower maintains the form by supplying air continuously. Plan electrical power, blower position, sound, access and supervision for the full operating period. Shape, duration, site constraints and maintenance determine whether this approach or a sealed construction is appropriate.

Care, storage and repair

Use cleaning methods compatible with the selected membrane; avoid untested solvents and abrasive products. Let the structure dry fully before packing. Inspect seams, valves, cables and areas exposed to rubbing, keep accessories separate and avoid sharp objects or tight folds during storage. Reinflate and inspect before reuse. For a repair assessment, send photographs of the damage, material, valves and seams, with the age and use history.
